The search engine optimization and indexing of the products and brands from your web store, happens through the process of Google or Bing's robots and accessing and indexing the web stores site map.

The site map is a file that contains all of the information necessary for search engine companies such as Google and Bing to index the Web store on a regular basis.

Depending on the point-of-sale connectivity, generally the site map is updated each time new products are uploaded to the Web store.

As part of AdVision web store customization, we register all web stores with Google so that the site can be regularly scanned for updated products.

Now we'd like to point out a few misconceptions related to Google.

1. We can dictate Google what to display on the search results. We can influence the search results but nobody can tell Google what to display. Having said that, it does not mean that Google just displays whatever random characters they grab from the atmosphere. It displays the results based on the meta tags of your pages (or your products) supplied by Lightspeed. By default, the meta tags on your products are the same as the product name itself. As an example, the meta tag title of this product "Womens Cashmere And Silk Melange Hoodie" is exactly that. You do not need to go through your product catalog and edit the meta tags of each of your product (it will take you forever if you did that). The meta tags on your pages are automatically supplied by Lightspeed.

2. Changes done today should be reflected immediately. That's not how it works unfortunately. Changes on the site can sometimes take up to 2 months before they are reflected on Google, Bing or Yahoo. For example, if you changed the web store name from "Indulgence Cashmere" to "All Cashmere" today, you wouldn't see the change on the google searches immediately. When someone searches for "indulgencecashmere" today and the next few days, they'd continue seeing "Indulgence Cashmere" on the descriptions. Because Google robots (and Bing robots & Yahoo robots) take time.

3. I want my site to be on top of Google searches. In an ideal world, that's where it should be. So initially your site will probably not crack the first page or so. That's why it's very important that you create traffic to your site by constantly talking about it on your social media accounts. You must tweet, blog, announce, instagram, video your products ... store events ... anniversary celebrations .. anything .... constantly, everyday if you have to. Even if the event itself is not directly related to your store, mention it anyway on your Facebook.
